Rules for Scalping

Sprint Center, Uncategorized, scalping No Comments »

The MyFOXKC Power & Light blog answers a question I’ve had about scalping tickets at the Sprint Center (or anywhere else in the city for that matter).

If you’re heading down to the Sprint Center, you’re likely to see a bunch of scalpers. Scalping is legal if you just have a pair of tickets you need to sell off. But, professional scalpers have to make their way to City Hall to get a business license. Four professional sellers did get cited Thursday for not having a license.

StubHub.com is still the best way to get rid of any extra tickets you may have in my opinion.

Update: Here is the original blog post.

Sprint Center Reviews Are In…

And they look pretty good (Downtownkc.org)

Seventy-five percent of the 95 people interviewed said parking was easy to find and 60 percent said they found a space within three blocks of the arena Oct. 13, the night of the Elton John concert.

Almost 95 percent of respondents said it was easy to find their way around downtown. Overall, 92 percent of the respondents described their downtown experience as “excellent” or “good.”

Another question asked how often the respondents would include downtown as a future destination for entertainment and/or dining. Fifty-six percent said they would come on a weekly or monthly basis. About 35 percent said they would come on a quarterly basis.

I’ve yet to go to an actual event there aside from the grand opening, but I’ll get a first hand experience next week at one of the Garth Brooks shows.

Collison: “Downtown’s new gem is clear for all to see”

Sprint Center 2 Comments »

Kevin Collison of the KC Star recently wrote a very enlightening article about the current progress of the Sprint Center which is scheduled to open in October.

What’s more, people outside will enjoy the energy within when the arena is lit up at night with activity. Call me a homey, but I think this multifaceted glass bowl designed by an all-star team of local sports architects will garner some national recognition.

Brenda Tinnen, the Sprint Center’s general manager, said the $276 million arena project was on time and on budget, which is important to her boss, billionaire Phil Anschutz, whose company would be responsible for any overruns.

Tinnen also promised that Anschutz Entertainment Group is planning some “big-bang” events when the arena opens in October.

“You will see concerts that have passed Kansas City by before,” she said.

Kevin Henderson reported good progress on the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, which is rising on the arena’s north side.

“Our goal is to become the nonstop celebratory house of college basketball,” he said.

I drove by earlier today, and looks like the glass panels completely circle the lower portion of the stadium. It’s going to be a thing of beauty on the KC skyline when all the glass panels are in place in a couple months! Also, it looks like Ticketmaster already has the seating chart available for the new arena.
